Wiggins' 'struggle' at the Tour of Britain
September 06, 2016 (20:00) [ Indexed from ]
After securing his fifth gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August, Bradley Wiggins is back to road racing with his namesake Team Wiggins at the Tour of Britain. The Briton looked like he enjoyed his outing during stage 2 fromCarlisle to Kendal, posting a photo on Instagram of himself running up the day's final KOM over a climb called The Struggle. "Taking things very seriously at the top of the struggle, took my mind off being in a world of pain," Wiggins wrote on Instragram. The Stuggle was the final climb of the 195km stage, located at the 160.5km mark. At the head of the raceXandro Meurisse (Wanty - Groupe Gobert) won full points on the ascent from a breakaway sprint and Julien Vermote (Etixx-QuickStep) went on to win the stage, while Wiggins brought up the rear of the peloton finishing nearly 23 minutes behind in 119th place.ADVERTISEMENT Perhaps Wiggins was poking a little fun at compatriot Chris Froome (Team Sky), whowas forced to abandon his bike and run up Mont Ventoux towards the finish of stage 12 of the Tour de France after the stage turned to chaos in the final kilometre. Or perhaps Wiggins, a former Tour de France winner and once one of the top climbers in the world, found The Struggle to be just that - a struggle. Wiggins and Cavendish to team up at Six Day London
May 24, 2016 (09:15) [ Indexed from ]
After claiming a memorable Madison title at the Track World Championships earlier this year, Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish will team up once again, returning to the scene of their triumph, at the Six Day London event in October. Cavendish confirmed his participation a couple of months ago but Wiggins was added to the bill on Tuesday to form, as he put it, the double act everyone wants to see. Ever since their ill-fated Madison ride at the 2008 Olympic Games, the careers of two of the biggest personalities in the history of British cycling have entwined themselves, culminating in that feel-good victory in the London Velodrome.Wiggins, who had noted that he and Cavendish had 'conquered the world' in the intervening eight years, said this year's Six Day could be the last time they compete alongside one another.ADVERTISEMENT Its going to be great. This has got to be the double act everyone wants to see isnt it?" said the 36-year-old. "Winning the Madison at the Worlds was incredible and this might well be the last chance that people get to see us together. With the roof having been blown off the Lee Valley VeloPark during the Madison victory in March, Wiggins joked that theyd have to put in some six day appearances " like the old days of Merckx and Sercu. Cavendish, who helped launch the Six Day London last year, revealed that was exactly the idea he had put to his partner. You can read more at More...
Tour of California team presentation - Gallery
May 14, 2016 (20:00) [ Indexed from ]
The 2016Amgen Tour of California gets underway on Sunday, with a stacked field with 10 WorldTour squads, including some of the best sprinters in the pro peloton. The race's winningest rider and current world champion Peter Sagan returns, looking to pad his record tally of stage wins and follow up on last year's overall victory.. Last year's Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix winner John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin) looks to refind his old form after being hit head-on by a car during the team's January training camp. BradleyWiggins (Team WIGGINS) says his added weight for his track focus ahead of the Rio OlympicGames will rule out a stab at a second overall victory, but he will be a favourite for the Folsom time trial.ADVERTISEMENT Last year's USAPro Challenge winner Rohan Dennis (BMCRacing) is one of the favourites for the overall classification, and will have Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx-Quickstep), Andrew Talansky (Cannondale) and Peter Stetina (Trek-Segafredo) as his main rivals. Tom Boonen (Etixx-Quickstep), Peter Kennaugh(Team Sky), Mark Cavendish(Dimension Data), Alexander Kristoff(Katusha), and Bryan Coquard (Direct Energie) will also have their opportunity to shine in the Golden State.
