Chavanel's Lige ends in hospital after team car crash

Sylvain Chavanel spent Sunday night in a Liège hospital after crashing into a team car near the end of Liège-Bastogne-Liège in Ans, Belgium, on Sunday. The Quick Step rider was chasing back to the front peloton when he impacted heavily with another team's car, 1.3 kilometres from the finish. Quick Step rider Sylvain Chavanel may not have been riding in the limelight during the Classic campaign of his Belgian team, but the Frenchman is nevertheless happy with his form going into the last event of the spring calendar on Sunday, the "Doyenne" Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Sylvain Chavanel, one of the pre-race favourites for the upcoming Paris-Nice, is fully focussed on what he describes as "the first big event of the year". Sylvain Chavanel's objectives for this year are clear, and he isn't afraid to talk about them. Even though France will be represented at the World Championships road race with only six riders instead of nine, Sylvain Chavanel is well motivated for the event taking place in Mendrisio, Switzerland, later this month.
